Privacy Policy

1. What We Collect
When you use Homeborn, we collect:
- Account data: email address, name, and password (hashed)
- Construction data: project information, photos, documents, costs, and notes you create
- Device data: device type, OS version, and push notification tokens
- Photo metadata: EXIF data including GPS coordinates and timestamps (only when you grant location permission)
2. How We Use Your Data
- To provide the construction documentation service
- To sync your data across devices (paid plans)
- To send transactional emails (password reset, account notifications)
- To generate exports (PDF, HTML, ZIP) that you request
3. Data Storage
All data (free and paid tiers) is stored on our servers (Railway.app, EU) and files on Cloudflare R2 (EU). Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest.
4. AI Assistant Data Processing
If you enable the AI Helper feature, the following additional data processing occurs:
- Text extraction: Text is extracted from your PDF documents and stored on our servers as structured text chunks for search and retrieval.
- Data sent to OpenAI: When you ask a question, relevant text excerpts from your documents are sent to OpenAI's API (OpenAI, L.L.C., USA) to generate a response. Only extracted text is sent — your original files remain on our servers.
- Chat history: Your questions and AI responses are stored on our servers to provide conversation context.
- OpenAI data policy: Data submitted via OpenAI's API is not used by OpenAI to train their models, per their current API data usage policy.
- No processing without consent: No document text is extracted or sent to OpenAI until you explicitly enable the AI Helper.
You can revoke AI consent at any time in settings. Revoking consent permanently deletes all text chunks and chat history from our servers.
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell your data. We share data only:
- With people you explicitly share your project with
- With infrastructure providers (Railway, Cloudflare) as necessary to operate the service
- With OpenAI (as described in section 4) only when the AI Helper is enabled
- When required by law
6. Data Export & Deletion
You can export all your data at any time (PDF, HTML, ZIP). You can delete your account and all associated data from the app settings. Deletion is permanent and irreversible.
